Medicaid health care coverage is critical to millions of children, women and men in Ohio. It promotes healthy families and healthy communities. Medicaid health coverage helps those with minimal incomes or significant health needs to get the health care that everyone deserves. UHCAN Ohio seeks to assure that Medicaid health coverage is quality coverage. Coverage should be available without bureaucratic barriers. Benefits should promote health and provide quality care.
In 2013 and 2014, UHCAN Ohio helped lead the charge to expand Medicaid. We worked with organizations across the state to urge state legislators to approve Medicaid expansion in Ohio. Independent researchers have shown the significant positive impact that the expansion has had on health. However, the health care coverage that many people gained from the Medicaid expansion is regularly under threat. The Ohio General Assembly has voted to freeze the expansion, require premiums, limit eligibility and require more paperwork. All with the intent to decrease the number of people with health care coverage through Medicaid.
Everyone’s Voice Is Important
UHCAN Ohio will continue to make sure that consumer voices are heard when any changes are proposed to Medicaid. When necessary, we rally consumers to action by engaging them in activities like participating in public hearings, writing comments, writing letters to the editor, and visiting legislators to voice opinions. One of the most effective ways you can keep Medicaid is to tell your experience with how it has helped you or someone you care about.

- Defending the Medicaid expansion.
- Defending Medicaid coverage and eligibility from reductions and road blocks.
- Advocating for improvements in operations, coverage and benefits for those enrolled in both Medicaid and Medicare through the MyCare program.
