Why UHCAN Ohio Calls for “No” Votes on Issues 2 and 3: They represent a Double Whammy Against Ohioans’ Health Care.

Ohioans have their hands full this fall, with TWO ballot initiatives taking aim at their health care. Issues 2 and 3 represent a double-whammy (add HB 194 to the mix, the attack on voting rights that will not be on the ballot this year) - a multi-faceted, broadside against Ohioans, their civil rights, and their health care.

UHCAN Ohio takes positions only on matters related to our mission of access to high quality, affordable health care for all Ohioans. So why is UHCAN Ohio urging its members to oppose Issue 2, the collective bargaining measure?

Issue 3: A Financial Headache for Ohio Dressed as an Attack on Health Care Reform

Most people I talk to think of Issue 3 as “the repeal of the ‘Individual Mandate’” – the requirement in the Affordable Care Act that everyone who can afford to must purchase basic health coverage.

But Issue 3 has little to do with the Affordable Care Act -- and everything to do with tying the hands of Ohio lawmakers from regulating anything to do with health care.

Consumer Advocates Push For Active Health Insurance Exchange

Health care advocates said failure to implement a key provision of the new federal health care law in Ohio would be a waste of taxpayer resources.

During a news conference Thursday, Ohio Consumers for Health Coverage urged the Kasich Administration and GOP lawmakers to develop a health insurance exchange, or online marketplace designed to help consumers shop for plans and link them with public subsidies for coverage.

TWITTER TOPIC: DEBUNK MYTHS OF THE ACA

MYTH: The ACA is a Big Government takeover!  TRUTH: ACA legislation creates a marketplace where private insurance companies can compete for business, puts an end to insurance company abuses, expands coverage (by providing subsidies for Americans to purchase affordable coverage from private insurers) and slows down rising health care costs. #debunkmythsoftheACA
